At Muffin Music, we believe that outstanding music education should be available to everyone. The Adult Retreat Program is thoughtfully designed by world-renowned musicians and educators to support adults in exploring music as a pathway for personal growth and is open to individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels.
At its core, the program fosters a supportive and inclusive community where individuals can step away from daily routines, engage meaningfully with others, and leave with lasting relationships and a deeper connection to music. The schedule is tailored to each individual in order to allow those who work remotely to participate.
A Professional Curriculum for Non-Professionals
At Muffin Music, we have created every M2 education program to deliver the highest of standards. Adult retreat participants receive a personalized curriculum developed with our Artistic Team in order to ensure that your two weeks are as fulfilling as possible.

Participants may choose their specialization for private lessons, and will then be placed into other electives by ability.
VIP M2 Experience
All participants will attend workshops and lessons on the Midland School campus which is the home for all M2 Summer programs. Nestled on more than 200 acres of Santa Ynez Valley landscape, participants will have a front row seat to observing M2 Fellow private lessons, masterclasses, faculty recitals, and other M2 workshops and rehearsals.
Adult Retreat participants will receive free tickets to all M2 student and faculty recitals.

Known increasingly as "little Hollywood", the Santa Ynez Valley is home to CEOs, Billionaires, and Celebrities. It's easy to see why, as the gorgeous landscape, vibrant cultural and food scene, and easy pace of life makes it a premier vacation destination.
Adult Retreat participants have access to exclusive winery tours, wine tastings, guided hiking and outdoor activities, and exclusive culinary events.
Housing
Participants are encouraged to explore a variety of housing options in the Santa Ynez Valley, or basic hotel accommodation will be organized through the program. Scheduled transportation between the program hotel and Midland School campus will be provided, but it is highly recommended for participants to plan for their own modes of transportation.

Sylvia Jiang is a young concert pianist from New Zealand and serves as Artistic Director and co-founder of non-profit organization Muffin Music Inc.. Hailed by critics as a ‘gifted young pianist of genuine substance’ and ‘New Zealand’s most notable young emerging pianist,’ Sylvia has been featured on BBC News, The Washington Post, ABC Australia, Radio New Zealand Concert, and other notable news networks and publications.
Sylvia has performed as a soloist with numerous internationally renowned Orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Queensland Symphony, Music Academy of the West, and Juilliard Chamber Orchestras. Solo performance highlights include Alice Tully Hall in New York City, Auckland Town Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Sylvia has served as Artistic Director for multiple arts organizations and events, with a focus on her interest in multi-disciplinary collaborative work. She was invited to be a featured soloist in The Kennedy Center’s Ballet Across America with Dance Theatre of Harlem and Miami City Ballet.
Over the years, she has won numerous top prizes at national and international level competitions including the prestigious Lev Vlassenko, Kerikeri, Music Academy of the West, and Hastings International Piano Competitions. She most recently served as the sole Artist Diploma Candidate at Johns Hopkins University.
She is currently on faculty at Special Music High School in NYC and has served as guest faculty at the University of Aukland School of Music.

Helen Zhibing Huang is a Chinese-born soprano recently praised as “impressive” by The New York Times for her portrayal of Pamina in The Magic Flute at The Glimmerglass Festival. In the 2025–26 season, she appears with Opera Grand Rapids as Josephine in HMS Pinafore and Ming in Stuck Elevator, returns to Knoxville Opera as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and makes her Resonance Works debut reprising Juliette in Romeo & Juliette.
Recent engagements include Setsuko Kobayashi in An American Dream and Ming in Stuck Elevator with Hawaii Opera Theatre, Juliette in Romeo & Juliette with El Paso Opera, and concert appearances with the Alabama Symphony in Fauré’s Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, and Handel’s Messiah. Additional roles include Frasquita in Carmen, Monica in The Medium, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role in Le Rossignol, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni.
A strong advocate for new music, Huang created the role of Singa Loh in the world premiere of I Am a Dreamer Who No Longer Dreams with White Snake Projects and has participated in workshops of new operas by Paola Prestini, Julian Wachner, and Leanna Kirchoff.
She is a prizewinner in several competitions, including the Jensen Foundation Competition and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Huang holds degrees from the New England Conservatory, Bard College Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Rochester, and co-hosts the podcast Asian Angles.

Jeff McKinnon is a dynamic teacher, actor, and writer with 25 years of experience in Santa Barbara County, including 23 years at Santa Ynez High School, where he founded the SYVHS Theatre Group. His students have graduated to go on to joining top theater programs including Pacific Conservatory Theater (PCPA) and Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
His most recent book, Cheat Out, is a go to for teachers, actors, and presenters at all stages in their careers. The book offers invaluable insight on how humans work together, play, and listen to one another.
Prior to teaching, he showcased his acting talent in regional theaters across the Midwest, West Coast, and Europe. Now residing in Solvang, California, he enjoys life with his wife, Carey, and their beloved cat, Charlie.

Trip Hawkins, empire builder, Video Game Industry creator and founder of Electronic Arts (EA) has been featured in every major media outlet—including the rare distinction as both one of People Magazine’s, “50 Most Beautiful People,” and “King of the Nerds,” by The Economist.
One of the first to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame, Trip began his career working closely with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and helped grow the company to a Fortune 500 leader with 4,000 employees. He founded Electronic Arts (EA) in 1982, taking it public in 1989, the company is now valued at nearly $30 billion. Trip pioneered software as a new art form, creating a “New Hollywood” in Silicon Valley.
Trip later founded 3DO, going through his third IPO and continued to build big digital brands and pioneer new areas including the internet, GPUs, 3D engines, cloud services, digital media, social media, mobile apps, eSports, free to play games, virtual goods economies, VR, AR, Games as a Service, and new tech sectors including sustainability, organic food, EdTech, FinTech, ergonomics and drones.
A CEO for 33 years in four global companies, and an advisor to many other CEOs, Trip believes that success is only in part about how far we rise. The principles he practices and teaches today—also address living with happiness, purpose and meaning while overcoming setbacks with grace, wisdom and tenacity.
Trip graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and has an MBA from Stanford, where he also graduated with high distinction and currently lives in the Santa Ynez Valley in California.

Lisa is an international award-winning brand strategist, marketer and creative director whose career has long been at the forefront of building brands that are as good for business as they are for the greater good.
Now working primarily as a mentor to Executive Directors and social/environmental entrepreneurs, her work includes NGOs like One Thread Collective, Muffin Music and Tribal Trust as well as former clients ranging from ocean conservation organization Sailors for the Sea founded by David Rockefeller, Jr., recording artist and environmentalist Jack Johnson and Target Corporation—to small, enterprising boutique brands—her campaigns educate and activate consumers while building awareness and driving impressive results.
In addition to being one of the first to launch an advertising agency dedicated to environmental and mission-based companies in 1990, she has also held senior positions at both the Utne Reader magazine and The Organic Center. Her love affair with words began in first grade when she became enthralled with novels about truth-seeking teen detective Nancy Drew, and at 10 she became an activist by starting a petition to save a forest near her home. Since childhood, she has been passionate about the power of story and its impact on creating change in the world.
She began her career as a print and broadcast journalist and currently lives in the Santa Ynez Valley in California.

Participants are provided housing in cabins on the Midland School Campus. As the Santa Ynez Valley is a very rural area, we highly recommend that students take advantage of living on campus.

Participants who will be flying in to attend the program should arrive at Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) where our staff will pick them up to transport them to campus, or can elect to arrive at LAX in Los Angeles and take a shuttle bus or other means of transport to Santa Barbara.
