Nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara County on the Midland nature-based School campus, the M2 Summer Camp (July 13th- 26th 2026) offers a two-week, world-class general music education for gifted and interested students ages 6–18, alongside an exciting outdoor experience. Our students come from a variety of musical backgrounds to study with world class concert artists and enjoy a curriculum consisting of musical ensemble, drum-line, general music theory, dance and drama, paired with a robust physical and outdoor education program. Students will be placed into groups based on ability and personal goals, with our most advanced students developing skills that will propel them towards a career in music. Our student body includes both local and non-local students, and this year we are pleased to offer an optional on-site sleep-away experience for all participants, including those from the local area.
At the core of our curriculum is the process of preparing for an onstage performance where all students will have featured roles in the final M2 Showcase on Saturday July 25th 2025. We strongly encourage family and friends to be present at this event, and can help to assist visiting families with accommodation and travel arrangements.
Students can also elect to receive private lessons on a chosen instrument. Afternoons consist of outdoor activities, outdoor skills development, and participating in organized sports. Our ultimate goal is to help our students develop into resilient, empathetic, and courageous individuals through the careful fostering of their musical interests.
Prior musical training is not necessary to participate in this program as students will be assigned groups based on ability. Our student cohort usually ranges from complete beginners all the way through to serious and proficient musicians looking ahead to College study. The curriculum is designed to maximize learning in all groups- beginning musicians will receive extra focus on music literacy whilst older students will receive college music workshops, extended performance, internship and community engagement opportunities. Thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsors and donors our tuition is already subsidized but further financial aid is available.

At M2, we value the huge role that family time plays in the development of each child, and we encourage out of town families to visit campus and stay in the Santa Ynez Valley during our program. While students receive world-class instruction, families enjoy wine country, nature, coastal access, and small-town California living—without the logistics stress of planning everything from scratch.
Families have the ability to spend up to two weeks registering their child as either as a boarding student or day camp student. Students spend each day working with our renowned teaching staff while engaging in a wide array of outdoor activities and excursions throughout the local area.
We are thrilled to partner with multiple local organizations to provide discounts for short and long term stay.
The Santa Ynez Valley is easily accessible from several major Southern California airports, including Santa Barbara (SBA), Los Angeles International (LAX), and San Luis Obispo (SBP), with drive times ranging from approximately 45 minutes to 2.5 hours.
Once in the valley, a car rental is recommended, as the region is rural and best explored by vehicle. Both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Airports provide car rental pickup and drop off options.
Once students arrive on campus either as a day camper or as a boarding student, M2 staff will provide transportation to all daily activities.
